For a few years now I've been "semi-retired" from photographing weddings. I was completely out of the industry a few years ago but I kept getting asked to do them, so I limited my jobs to a handful a year. Reason being, I've got young twins at home (born 10/3/04). And they're a handful :o)
I photograph weddings using a photojournalistic style. This style captures more spontaneity and emotion. I will of course also photograph your classic posed photos (bride w/parents, groom w/parents, groom & best man, bride w/maid of honor, etc.). Your wedding would be photographed by me, not by a substitute. I do not use an assistant or multi-remote activated strobes for staged images. I shoot the wedding using a professional Fuji S2 digital SLR camera. I also bring a Nikon 35mm as emergency back up. I photograph only one wedding a day, so there are no time constraints. Your special day will command my full attention.
Over the years I've offered several packages to my clients. When I decided to get back into the business I decided to offer just one. It's the most cost effective for the clients who are looking to save a little money.
The package price is $2,500. For that you get my cameras and me from start to finish and all the images (a few weeks after) on disc. If the event were in a remote location (ie; Northern NH, Vineyard, etc.) there would be a slight cost increase for travel. I shoot as much or as little as you like in both color and B&W. Then I give you every image I've taken. In essence, you get the negatives (in actuality, the CD's). By industry standards, this is highly unorthodox. Wedding photographers make a large percentage of their profits from selling reprints. I give you everything. You have the ability to reproduce as many images as you want, whenever you want, without dealing with the photographer. Just bring the disc to any photo shop and ask them to print out whatever images you want. It's that simple. Or you can just email them to family members or friends who couldn't attend the wedding. Also, I will not copyright the images. They're yours. All I ask for is your permission to show your photos to future clients, so they can see examples of my work.
There is one down side to this package. Since I'm no longer in the industry full time, I no longer create wedding albums. To be honest, since I don't photograph weddings as a full time occupation it's not cost effective for the clients to have me do it. The reason for this is, I no longer have a stockpile of album materials. If I were to do an album for someone, I'd need to buy just what I needed to do their job (at a higher cost because I'm not buying in bulk), which I would then have to charge back to the customer. In order to keep the package cost effective, I suggest that people get the album done on their own. Just about all of my customers thoroughly enjoyed doing this. This is one of the main reasons why my cost is much less expensive than other wedding photographers.
Engagement photos
My normal charge for this service is $350. But if the couple is using me to photograph their wedding, I take $100. off that price. That price gets you my services to shoot your engagement photo in the location of your choosing (again, non-local shoots may be slightly higher in remote locations), a disk with the images I've shot, and an 11x14 image of the photo you've selected to be your engagement photo. The photo will not be mounted. Reason being, it's best to have a frame shop do it at the time you pick out your mat. The photo (mat actually) makes a nice place to have guests sign, instead of the conventional guest book.
